2 birthdays in 10 days

John and I had awesome timing with our boys.
They are 3 years 10 days apart!

In our house for the past 5 (almost 6) years, Andrew has had the cake, party (joint mind you) and present.

This year, Andrew got his OWN party and now Declans birthday has snuck up on me once again.

I have realised that next Monday is in 3 sleeps and I have NOTHING planned for Declan again.
I have a family dinner for 1 June where my brother and his family will be here to do the present thing for the boys and that is it.

Poor Declan

On top of all that, we have just gotten a diagnosis for Mr Dec of ADHD and we are day 3 into medication for him and he is not taking that very well.

The first day he took his top up pill, he thunder chucked outside his classroom.
The second day, he was too scared to take his morning pill in the fear that he would be sick again.
This is the third day and so far, he seems ok.

I hate that I have to medicate him and hate how he is feeling in that little body of his.
Not only does he feel sick and is scared of taking his pill in the fear of hurling it back up, his brain is still going 100km and his body wont let him do what his brain says to.

So on top of the birthday guilts, I feel awful for doing this to him.
I know that with his diagnosis he NEEDS the medication, but as a parent I don't want to do it.

I better go before I start babbling and then I will probably cry all over the lap top.

I hope you all had a fab week and have a great weekend.

  1. Hang in there girlfriend, you'll get through it. Take a deep breath and relax. It will all work out in the end. :)

  2. Hi Vikki

Birthday parties for kids can be challenging! To keep my sanity I used to alternate who got a "big" birthday party and the other child had something smaller.

  3. Sending love and encouragement. You're obviously a good mother for being so concerned about your little boy. I'm sure you're doing the right thing and his birthday will be AMAZING. :)

  4. Know how you feel though my month is December. Monkeys teacher thinks she may need assessing for ADHD too :-(

    1. Declans quirks have gotten harder to deal with as he got older....there is a secondary that we can't find until the ADHD is under control :( hugs to you and Monkey

    2. She has a few months grace before her teacher wants to have her assessed. I've always put it down to her age.

  5. My girls were both deemed to have ADHD. Thankfully, I didn't immediately succumb to the pressure to medicate them, but educated myself. Part of that education was received when they were accepted into the GATE program (Gifted and Talented Education). At the orientation meeting, the room was filled with posters depicting all of the characteristics which got my girls labelled ADHD but here, they were shown as common characteristics of a gifted child! I was really glad I didn't give them drugs, and have seen the effect on some of their friends who did receive them. Not good! I've also heard, since then, that there are many natural ways to keep your child from completely running amok. (I acutally used to give my daughters a little coffee in their milk in the morning, and it made a huge difference in their ability to concentrate!) Good luck with Declan.
